Every season, NY Fashion Week manages to take over our social media feeds with a flurry of straight-off-the-runway selfies, lustworthy street style shots, a heavy dose of #shoeporn and pretty much everything else the fashion-conscious live for. With the closing of the Fall 2014 debut, we’re here to report on the wearable runway looks that work for both men or women this coming season. As you take a peek for yourself at all the latest designer collections, refresh your shopping list and keep an eye out for these hot trends:
Fur, Fur, and more Fur. Whether you prefer faux or not, fur seems to be getting bigger, better and bolder this coming Fall - check out the way J. Mendel re-works it with vibrant hues and streamlined silhouettes. Now is definitely the time to invest in a gorgeous (not to mention warm and cozy) fur coat. Pair one with metallic pieces for a “modern glam” feel.
Sportswear Re-Vamp. Although sporty pieces are not new to the scene, we’re certainly seeing more attention to detail and structure. Rebecca Taylor’s quilted bomber jacket exemplifies the luxury sportswear-meets-sophisticate look. Expect panelling and cut-outs, zipper detailing, mesh layering and street chic sneakers to stay on the radar for another while longer.
Warm, bold colors. On par with the Radiant Orchid trend, bright hues of red (cue Prabal Gurung’s cool wrap top), pink and orange feed our wild side desire for vivid colors while still maintaining a feminine splash. Whether you choose to go with some solid color blocking or find color accents in an eye-catching pattern, these shades are sure to warm up the fall season. Utilitarian Meets a Muted Color Palette. Designers like Jason Wu and Alexander Wang and bring new meaning to menswear and menswear-inspired look with long, oversized coats, slouchy-yet-slick trousers and a mix of heavy with light. Pastels and dark monotone shades (grays, blacks, whites) come into play as well, and when complemented with the same colors all-over, translate to a look that’s elegant and powerful. The same trend can be said for shoes -- look out for an emphasis on function and form this season with mules and flat Birkenstock-type sandals.
Midi hemlines. This is one for the ladies - evidently becoming an indicator of timeless taste and elegance, midi hemlines are making their way back from the 40s/50s eras. Hemlines that hit below the knee can easily go from drab to fab if you work with the right textiles (like Michael Kors’ pretty sheer pieces) and look for sleek details like Altuzarra’s side slits.
